First, a blog post, in which the composer of "Mind Heist" responds to "It's Our Fight," a section of the score for the third Bey Transformers movie, and the unmistakable similarities between the two songs.

Second, two YouTube videos comparing the two.

Third, a mashup of the two tunes.

My guess for what happened: the animators for T3 used "Mind Heist" as the temp track to the scene, lining up the big steel punches with the, well, the big brass punches, and showed it to Bey that way. He liked the effect so much that he insisted that the score composer reproduce it in the actual film score, and griped if it got too far away, plagiarism be damned, leading to a near-homage (and probably a certain amount of embarrassment for the composer). Those of you who have worken in Hollywood, any insight on whether that's a reasonable hypothesis?

Oh, and those long, deep low-brass punches? Here's the wake-up song used in Inception. Listen to the intro, before the voice comes in. Now, take those trumpet & trombone bounces and subject them to the time-dilation effects produced by dreaming in the movie, and what would you get? (Granted, the rhythm is different.) :-D So that's derivative, too, albeit for important plot reasons.

Late. Like everything else, lately. *sigh* Not as impressive as some of the last ones, but still kind of long.

Does anyone else think it's weird that Bibleman is the voice of one of the main characters in the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon? I mean, this was in the early '80s, back when mainstream Christians thought D&D was Satanic. I guess Aames really needed the money?

Speaking of the D&D cartoon, someone (I think it must have been the Spouse?) pointed out that the evil!Optimus Prime from the Shattered Glass Transformers AU must sound like Venger, since that's what Peter Cullen sounds like when he's playing evil.

This caused me to think about what good!Megatron and good!Starscream would sound like. Now, Chris Latta didn't have a whole lot of range compared to some of the other voice actors he worked with - think about how similar Cobra Commander, Brainy Smurf, and Starscream all sound. So the Screamer probably doesn't change very much; possibly he sounds a little more like Wheeljack. But for good!Megs - wow, do we have options. So I have been amusing myself thinking about good!Megatron speaking in a pitched-down version of Welker's Fred/Ray voice.

Speaking of which - and sorry about the Obsession cropping up again here - but it turns out Latta did play the guest voice on one episode of RGB. Not one of my favorite eps, although it's the one in which the warning signal that something is about to happen (in this case, a human turning into a Toon, and yes, that's an awfully meta gag for an animated series) is that their pinkies disappear.
