I was planning to be out of town on the 7th. I don't want to purchase tickets if there's a decent chance I'll be selected for jury duty. And the 10th is the first day back at school. I missed our first day two years ago because the Spouse and I got called up as witnesses; this would make it a 50% hit rate for courts keeping me from reporting back on time.
If I reschedule, it'll fall during the school year itself, which will be even worse.
I wouldn't worry about getting picked, if you show a modicum of intelligence and have a clue they won't pick you. The last thing the prosecutor wants on a jury is someone who can think for themselves.
If it's a criminal case, sure. If it's a civil trial? I tried that last time and got picked anyway. Apparently they love public school teachers and being a superfreak does not override that.
Confirmed on that. I served on a case a few years ago; afterwards, I was talking to the lawyer (turns out he's one of the most well-known legal eagles in that town). He said they love to have public school teachers. Responsible, considerate, thinking, logical and practical all in one. :P
