Yeah, so we got out of Watchmen at about 1:30 am. The Spouse is deeply dissatisfied with it. I think it's about as good as a movie adaptation made for a 21st-century audience could be. Which is not to say I think it's flawless; as [livejournal.com profile] fynarra said, the actress playing Silk Spectre II was about as wooden as a popsicle stick, and some of the dialogue was . . . well, bad. (It's also excessively gory, and possibly excessively gory considering the source material.) Still, it made a reasonable movie, and hell, it's Watchmen. Not being an extreme fangirl of the source material, I'm reasonably pleased.

I'm waiting for the "all Rorschach needs is the lurve of a good woman; he's my woobie, darn it!" and "Ozy was right!" craziness from the legions of new, squeeeing fangirls. That Ozymandias is a bishie isn't going to help, either.

I would say that casting was definitely the weakness of the movie, particularly the Second Silk Spectre. I was also unimpressed by the casting for Ozymandias- not nearly pretty or handsome enough. Off the top of my head leaving the theatre, Sean Bean would have been better

I think the Silk Spectre II actress would make a good Wonder Woman.

Ozymandias was so cute it hurt.
