A few links that have crossed my screen that I thought were worth noting:

Some excellent crossover costuming from Dragon*Con: The Blues Busters. All I can think is "I looked at the trap, Elwood."

The Time Lords picking up their mail was kind of cool, too.

What the shit is Shinji doing? (h/t [livejournal.com profile] calliopes_pen for this one)

The Wrong Way To Have A Three-Way. Clearly none of the participants thought this through. Makes the usual poly drama look much more survivable, I must admit.

I thought I had another one around here somewhere, but I must have closed the window. Ah, well. I'll post it if I find it.

Finally finished a book I ordered well over a year ago, Anthony Ravenscroft's Polyamory: Roadmaps for the Clueless and Hopeful. It's the only Poly 201 book I've ever found.

Let me expand on that for a moment for those of you who aren't familiar with the mess that is the poly bookshelf. There are a lot of Poly 101 books, which range in quality from execrable to pretty good. The two best known in the poly circles I travel in are Deborah Anapol's Polyamory: The New Love Without Limits, which was groundbreaking when it was published but is mired in self-congratulatory verbiage and a muzzy newage mindset, and Easton and Listz's The Ethical Slut, which has actually held up pretty well, considering. Celeste West's Lesbian Polyfidelity is also pretty good on that front, although the focus, as you can guess from the title, is a little narrow (although she seems to consider open group marriage polyfidelitous). And, in fact, most of the poly books that exist are Poly 101s. They're also almost all evangelistic. They not only think poly is awesome, they want you, the reader, to discover how awesome it is. The few other books that exist tend to be how-to books for very specific relationship structures - often the FMF V-triad, but sometimes the two-het-couple quad. 313 courses, if you'll permit me to extend the metaphor a bit past the stretching point.

Ravenscroft claims not to have read any of the three books I mentioned above. This might be one of the reasons his book is different; not knowing what ground has already been trod, he doesn't feel any pressure not to wander past it. And while the book does share some of the same territory as Ethical Slut, for the most part it's that rarity, a general poly book that gets past the "This is awesome! You should try it!" evangelical mode and the very basics, and actually deals with the nitty-gritty of living poly - a 201 course.

Accidentally took a piece of poly!wankbait on [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets. I should not have done that; it never does any good. Fandom wank is never pretty, and mixing it with sex is just so not a good idea.

Having said that, I did manage a reasonable turn of phrase, which I'm leaving for myself here, such that if I ever need to re-use it, I can find it again wihtout grovelling through the F!S posts.

Hearts are big enough for more than one person. Whether our lives are big enough is another question, but that's a matter of logistics, not the heart.

Oh, my . . .

Well, I've been kicked off of LiveJournal for a while. This is the first time I've had both the time and the ability to log in since, oh, dear, October. Hmm. What all has happened since then?

Job: the Geometry kids have slowly gone berserk on me. Still enjoying the Alg. II kids, though. We finished TAAS (hooray!), and RR had a party at her place to celebrate, where I got to do the usual classwatching and powerwatching. As a result, I now know that the Boss knows that I'm afraid of authority figures in general and not him in particular (but he's a smart guy; he can figure these things out). It's odd to watch your superiors getting drunk.

Religion: CMA had a major explosion. It looks like most of the discontents are working themselves out of the equation one way or another, though. If things go well, Goo may be back in business as a HPS (as well as the Accord Editor), which would be a Good Thing Indeed. I haven't talked with Rasputin in a while, which is a bit sad.

Poly: Had a date with a couple, which went really well. Missed scheduling our second date several times. Now on hold because they have issues with their other involvees and a possible pregnancy issue as well. Ah, well. Got my toes wet, at least!

Hobbies: Oh, wow. Both Harry Potter and Mahou Tsukai Tai! are post-last post. I'm a major fangirl, and reading fanfic, which I _never_ thought I would do back, oh, say, last September. I suspect I'll have to post more about these later. Suffice it to say I'm on discussion mailing lists for both. I've dropped T_E again, after 9/11 turned the list into a frothing mass of hate. Ichi has started a list of his own, AtAgUn, which I'm on even though I'm technically none of the above.

Other: The G/K family may be moving back from California, as may the I/M family, if things out there don't pick up. Probably not to Houston, though; Austin is more likely in both cases. Either way, we'd get to see them more often, which would be a Good Thing. K&A have relocated from Cali to Indianapolis, and are enjoying it; they visited briefly over Yule break. I'm going to my high school 10-year reunion in May; the Imzadi is going to be there - with a date/spouse.

Mmm. More later. This is Spring Break, so I should get to write a bit.
