So apparently the existence of two women in sufficiently high levels in the US government to be in the Situation Room is so threatening to some people that they 'Shopped them out. Sorry, not buying the "immodesty" bit - Clinton's suit in that photo is about as modest as you can get without a burqua.

Now, if she'd been dressed as Wonder Woman, maybe . . .

It's not that her outfit was immodest, but for the ultra-orthodox, *any* photo of a woman is "immodest." Still problematic, mind you, but it's everything to do with them and nothing to do with her.

Or, in other words, no amount of modesty is sufficient. Wow. Even the Salafi and Wahabbi don't go that far.

*listens for exploding heads as I compare ultra-orthodox Jews to ultra-orthodox Muslims*

I would respectfully disagree. I've lived in Saudi Arabia, I have Saudi friends, my father is Egyptian, and we have close friends and family living in the Middle East. Yes, the Wahabbi do go that far. The largest public transport company won't let women on the buses or trains because of modesty/"intermingling" religious laws. No woman is modest enough, even if she is accompanied by her guardian male. The laws set up by the Wahabbi in Saudi Arabia are specifically designed to keep women out of the public eye -- in print, in public, everywhere. The only time a woman is modest "enough" is when she's enclosed within the four walls of her woman's quarters.

Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to Saudi newspapers. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1874471.stm)

Saudi women are forbidden to appear in public without a face-covering veil and a full-body shroud; they're forbidden to travel, get an education or even leave their house without the permission of a male guardian; and they're forbidden to mingle with unrelated men in public or in private, an unsubtle form of gender apartheid. Beaches, parks, restaurants, businesses and homes all have physically separate entrances for men and women and sex-segregated areas within to comply with these laws.
