Not that anyone on my flist probably needs the reminder, but - all you USians, if you haven't already voted early, remember to go vote today! If none of the candidates are palatable, go vote for obscure third parties, write in "Lizard People" in every slot, even spoil your ballot - I don't care. Just go, and remind them that we're still here and still watching!

Dunno about elsewhere, but at my polling place, with the machines we use, you CAN'T write-in "Lizard People" (or "Hastur Hastur HastAAARGH" or "Bill the Cat") except in races with formally declared and registered write-in candidates. If there's not an "official" write-in candidate, the "write in" option doesn't even appear on the screen.

I discovered that today in Louisiana! It was a bummer because a few of the races merited a big fat write-in for ye olde

In Pennsylvania, a write-in was always available. Which would explain why I have a friend who votes for cartoon characters every year. It would also explain why Bender Bending Rodriguez got 5% of the vote in his particular ward and precinct in 2008. (That was also the year that he sat out with a banner suggesting people write in his candidate for a particular race. It was an entertaining enough ploy.)
