If people want to get married, regardless of gender/preference, then LET THEM GET MARRIED. Marriage ought to be a personal thing, not a religious affair, in the first place. Bravo for CA! Wonder what Der Gubernator thinks of it?
Der Gubernator actually made rather a point of NOT defending Prop 8 in the courts. He's been against Prop 8 for quite some time, as I recall, and he declared himself very pleased with Judge Walker's ruling.
Given his abysmal approval ratings and overall lame-duckitude, there's really no reason anymore for him to do anything except what he truly thinks is right ::smirk:: -- but I'm still grateful that he deliberately held back from giving the side of oppression any of his government's firepower. It was very principled of him and of Jerry Brown to take that stance.
