Oh, yeah, and music hapened

After much prodding from cheshirebast, I hauled the old horn out yesterday. It's actually in remarkably good shape, considering that it's been neglected for something like fourteen years. The valve slides are all frozen and need greasing, the valve strings and springs should probably be replaced, the spit key needs to be recorked, and all the valves except for third (of course) are slow - first and trigger only slightly so, second slow enough to make playing difficult. Oh, and the threads for the screw-on bell need to be regreased. But really, all things considered, it's in remarkably good shape.

Regaining my embouchure, on the other hand - whoo. I could barely hold a note for a full measure, and couldn't hit the high F at all. 8-/ Oh, and my mouthpiece is tarnished beyond belief.

I don't know how long it'll take to get back in playing shape. I don't seem to have lost lung capacity, for what that's worth (singing probably has kept me in reasonable condition there). But he seems to want everyone in the band who can play an instrument at all to be stage-ready, so I guess it's scheduled practice for me.

I think we need a second guitarist before we go full horns, personally, but that's just me. I watched Jimb's link to Roger Waters doing "Dogs" live from a few years back and he had FOUR guitarists playing. If you figure that Rog has been doing this professionally for 40+ years, and the Bi-Peds have been around for 20+, we should have at least half as many guitarists. That's how it works, right?
