Give me a character, a series, or a pairing and in return I'll give you three reasons why I love that character, that series, or that pairing (unless of course I don't love that character, that series, or that pairing, in which case I guess we'll just sort of stare awkwardly at each other through the internet).

Peter-San?

(I'll go with animated!Peter here, because my answers really are different between the two Drs. Venkman.)

1) Dr. Peter Venkman is a kid's show hero who's genuinely allowed to be flawed. He's vain, he shoots his mouth off, he's self-centered, he gets frustrated easily, and even as an adult there's a bit of frat-boy jock who never quite grew up in him (I wanted to make all kinds of Peter Pan jokes in that last fic once I got him floating). And yet, he's still also a hero - athletic and handsome, to be sure, but genuinely caring and protective of his friends, and self-sacrificing when the occasion calls for it.

2) He's intelligent (at least until Season Four) and can keep up with Drs. Stantz and Spengler, but he's dropped suggestions of hardscrabble roots often, and he's still in touch with the street.

3) He's got some lovely ego bruises. Watching him around Ms. Faversham, or Charlie, or how he acts when he thinks one of the others is genuinely injured - he may be a Scorpio, but there's a Cancer-tenderness under the shell.

Oh, two more for good measure?

4) He's the only male in the series who's allowed to be explicitly sexual (or as close as a kid's show allows), and he's good at it. The boy's damn sexy. (In fact, Dr. V and Captain Jack are the only two Lovable Rogue characters that work for me that way.)

5) He's canonly at least a dream precog, possibly just precog or psychic in general, and wow, is that fun to play with in fic. He's been possessed multiple times. The first time, he got it together to fight it - and lost. All this hits my kinks like whoa.

Yeah, I'll uhm... kind of admit to being just slightly attracted to Peter. I love his overgrown fratboy attitude, and the way him and Janine banter like brother and sister. But he does have that kindness, even with folks outside the Busters, yes.

Psychologist!Peter in both movie and animated canon admittedly also presses some of my buttons. xD Particularly when he uses the "friendly but penetrating" gaze that uncovers a character's secrets, or when Egon (or anyone) trusts him enough to let Peter's gaze wash over him, cataloguing his body language and comparing it to the words/behaviours.

Hm. Here's a curveball for you : Webb Wilder.

(Not that I expect this one to give you trouble, but the intersection of the different incarnations of Webb should be fun for you to weave and disentangle...)

1) He's from Hattiesburg. Seriously, do you know how tough it is to be smart and artistic and from Hattiesburg? And yet, here is is.

2) He knows the value of a good cover tune, in the right place, at the right time. He gets that the words don't have to be yours to be the ones you need to say.

3) The Webb Wilder Credo. Speaking of wise words, these are some ones to live by. These and the hat flip.

How about... Peter/Egon?

(There's something about that pairing that compels me, but I don't know what it is. Not to sound sheep-like, but reading about another's opinion on the pairing would help me figure out why I'm attracted to those two. ^^; )

Animated or movie? I'll take it either way, but it changes the answer.

Three Reasons why Peter/Egon is a Damn Fine Pairing:

1) It has all the inherent tension of the Nerd/Jock pair dynamic without the problem that the Jock can't keep up. Peter may be physical and athletic, and yeah, he probably conned Egon and Ray into doing half his homework for him in undergrad, but he's a double doctorate, same as Egon - he just doesn't wear his credentials on his sleeve.

2) It makes the bizarre sexual tension of the show finally make sense. Peter having a new girlfriend every time one's mentioned, Egon's near-neurotic hesitation to respond to Janine's overtures despite clearly being deeply fond of her, and Peter's weird half-flirtatious, half-big-brother routine with Janine? All make a lot more sense if Egon's on the high end of the Kinsey scale, if he and Peter are attracted to each other, and if Peter perceives Janine as a rival (if possibly subconsciously).

3) The show was animated in Japan, at least for the early seasons. While neither of them is a pure specimen of the form, both Peter and Egon have their bishonen aspects, especially regarding height, eyes, lips, and hair. They make a very pretty couple. At the same time, neither of them is stereotypically feminized, the way a lot of 'bishis' are now.

Then there's the matter of the Epic Snark, and that their voice actors deliver it so well . . . ;-)

Dr Ray Stantz (RGB)

Ah, Ray, Ray, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

1) He's so open and honest. Even when something embarrasses him, or when he's trying to spare someone's feelings, the truth will out. Of course, the silly boy tries to keep secrets anyway, and it's fun to watch him try - but he's the bright light in the opened eyes. Nothing can stay hidden forever.

2) He genuinely loves learning new things. The doctorate marks so many people's shift from learning to being Repositories of Knowledge, and even Peter and Egon show signs of that occasionally, even though they know better, but Ray approaches everything eager to learn about it, eager to Find Out something new.

3) He's an occultist who doesn't need to put on airs about it. He's openly and bluntly interested in things most people think are scary or dangerous, but he doesn't feel like he has to be scary or dangerous himself. He doesn't need the jewelry and the show, because he's the real deal and this isn't fundamentally about other people's perceptions of him.

One more for good measure:

4) He's brave, loyal, clever, and wise. The Sorting Hat would have a fit. ;-)
