So I got up at about 12:30, did the usual getting-dressed stuff, unloaded last nights load of dishes and loaded the dishwasher for the next one, and thought to myself, "Self, this is the definition of luxury - rising after noon, surveying the aftermath of a damn good if low-key party with great food, breaking one's fast on a big slice of leftover apple pie* and a cup of cranberry-blood orange tea."

Okay, yes, I can see you tea snobs out there sneering at me for that last one. Yes, I buy the flavored froufrou teas from Republic of Tea and SeredipiTea and all the rest. I like flavored froufrou teas. Those of you who drink pu-erh unadulterated from a 300-year-old teapot can go ahead and laugh; I'm tough, I can take it. (Oh, gods, if you feel like you need to defriend me over something so embarrassing as that, I totally understand . . . .)

Anyway, I had something in one hand and was reaching for the flavored tea with the other and the stack of tea cannisters started sliding. I managed to catch two of them, but the others managed to not only fall onto the floor, they took another stack with them - and when that stack hit the floor, the lid popped off my British Breakfast and the loose tea went all over the floor.

*facepalm*

So I had to clean the mess up before I made my tea, and now I need to check to see if either Middle Market or Partial Edibles has that one loose. I'd rather just refill the canister than buy a new one.

*Shut up, it's better than a pop-tart.

In other news, the minor evidence for my needing to watch Glee continues to mount; apparently Stephen Tobolowsky has a recurring role.

I've been drinking - and loving - Republic of Tea for -years-. No sneering here....(I bought some kind of special edition 'winter spice blend' last year at World Market that actually has pieces of cocoa bean in it and it's wonderful....

Man, the fruity teas are my favourite. :\

This is my policy with tea:

Is it recognizable as some sort of drinkable leaf-based tea? If yes, does it taste good? If yes, drink. If no, can I add milk and sugar and make it taste good? If yes, drink. If no, pass.

I like flavored teas better than Russ does, so I sympathize here.

I picked up some Masala Tea (in bags) the last time we were in a big Fiesta. It's good, but it definitely requires milk to be drinkable. I never understood people putting milk in their tea until I encountered the really strong Indian black blends!

Not particularly fond of flavoured tea. I can take it if the flavour is subtle -- like Green Tea with orange or something. But for the most part, I prefer my tea unadulterated with flavourings, preferring that if there's supposed to be fruit/spice/herb in it, that it be *real* fruit/spice/herb in the teabag/loose tea.

This said, I DO like chai latte. <3 There's this powdered mix I get which I add hot milk to. Mmmmmm <3

(And I have a cannister of matcha in my kitchen, too.)

Er, fruits/spices/herbs in the tea is what I mean by "flavored tea." (With the exception of the peach iced tea, which does have 'peach flavoring' in it, but that's iced tea and thus doesn't count.) You know, as opposed to nothing-in-the-cup-except-hand-picked-tea-leaves.

Yeah, here, stuff that's meant to be fruit tea may have the leaves of the fruit, and a fruit flavouring thrown in, or in the aforementioned green tea case, it be the green tea simply has an orange flavouring added to it. -.- Twinings, surprisingly, has gotten real bad for doing this.

Well, yes. Stale cardboard is slightly better than a pop-tart. }:-{D

But leftover apple pie... oh, I wish. The only pie choices yesterday (and I tried a slice of each, could finish neither) were pistachio pie and sweet potato pie.

(I hate sweet potatoes in pretty much any form, but pie form is the worst- because, on first glance, it looks exactly the same as pumpkin pie, which I quite like.)

No, breakfast this morning was a wedge of Hunt Brothers breakfast pizza bought at the gas station just before driving home at dawn from my Black Friday plunge. Apple pie would have been a definite step up.

Mmmmm, apple pie...

If there are tea leaves in a drink then I'm happy to call it tea. I honestly don't object to people putting any number of things in hot water and drinking the results; I just expect 'tea' to contain actual tea leaves. I've sort of accepted that 'herbal tea' is a common term now for things with NO tea in them, but it still bothers me since I was raised to understand 'tea' was the name of a plant. (To me this is rather like calling Carob 'herbal chocolate'. Lovely stuff, but it's sure as heck not chocolate.)

As for adulterating tea with any number of wild oils, herbs, and whatnot: I'm fer it. We enjoy a variety of preposterous offerings from 'The Republic' and their ilk.

I had no idea we had unwittingly chosen sides in a battle so deeply dividing the social circle that it puts LJ friending in the line of fire. Please let me know where there the battle-lines are drawn so I can cower behind the correct rocks.

Yeah, I'd prefer for people to call things that are based on hibiscus or other stuff "infusions" or "tisanes" instead of "tea," although I think I've given up the battle where rooibos is concerned, since not only is "red tea" apparently its common name, it actually sort of tastes like Camellia sinesis.

Speaking of which, is maté on your no-go list?

I don't drink the herbals much, either. I'm allergic to chamomile (as are many people with ragweed allergy) and I'm also sensitive to one of the other common base herbal ingredients (possibly raspberry leaves?) that's in most of the Celestial Seasonings teas. So I tend to stick to ones that are based on 'real' tea. Not much into some of the fruity blends (it depends) but I go wild for anything that's minty. One of my current faves is Tazo Zen. Ohhhhhh.

I love fruity teas (especially the kind that are spicy too). And I love herbal infusions too. I love Black Tea. I am iffy on most Greens. I love White Tea. I love Rooibos.

In conclusion: There is no one RIGHT WAY to enjoy tea.

We are on a huge Teavana kick.

Currently in my cabinet from them

Earl Grey Creme (popular with both the "real tea" drinkers and those looking for more decadent flavor, which is surprise because before this I never met an Earl Grey I didn't find dull) (http://www.teavana.com/The-Teas/Black-Teas/Earl-Grey-Creme-Black-Tea.axd)
Peach Cran-Tango Black (super fruity black tea that is perfect for making iced tea) (http://www.teavana.com/The-Teas/Black-Teas/Peach-Cran-Tango-Black-Tea.axd)
Precious White Peach (delicate and delicious fruity white tea, for when I don't want milk in my tea)
Plum Harvest Herbal Infusion (spicy and a little tart, for when I want to drink something delicious and soothing before bed without the caffeine) (http://www.teavana.com/The-Teas/Herbal-Teas/Plum-Harvest-Herbal-Tea.axd)

Oh, gods, Teavana! I am enjoying the hell out of a cup of their Mrs. Earl Grey (I love all the Lady Grey types, and am completely 'meh' on actual Earl Grey; go figure) right at this very instant.

♥ Oh tea!

I love how floral and aromatic the Earl Grey Creme is. It's almost more like a Jasmine Tea than an Earl Grey in a way.
