Date: 2009-02-25 06:41 am (UTC)There's also Ostrich Plumes, which is f&f for 4 pattern repeats, then you shift the whole thing so the YOs are over the decs and vice versa, work 4 reps, switch back... which does have a bit more of the look of the curved bobbing ends of the feathers.
That said, fan stitches in general tend to be where the YOs create an outward curve, so if you *had* to say one part was the feathers and the other was the fan, I'd call the YO parts the fan where the columns of decreases create slanting lines like on a quill (moreso if you make half of each group of decreases slant one way and the other half slant the other).
