Seeing as how both [livejournal.com profile] wyldraven and [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks have linked to Glenn Greenwald's article about the 2001 Anthrax Scare, the US bioweapons expert who committed suicide rather than be arrested as the primary suspect, and ABC News's conduct with respect to the crisis, I guess I will too.

I hadn't remembered how thoroughly the anthrax spores got linked with Iraq in the mainstream media at the time. All this time, I've been blaming the American public for being too stupid to keep the Taliban and Iraq straight in their minds, and it turns out they're just conflating the anthrax scare and 9/11 instead - and correctly remembering what at least one major media outlet was saying about the anthrax letters.

And bradhicks's post is worth reading, too, if you haven't already.

I figured that it was an independent operator who ended up getting a Darwin award (instead of 70 virgins) for handling the deadly stuff. But now I wonder if there weren't two individuals acting independently; I recall that they identified two different types of powder.
