I'm going to be that person. I would like to speak for the rest of the population that does not want to be half-elf. To me these kinds of games reduce imagination by imposing a rigid set of rules, and forcing a generic prefabricated fantasy on people.
Has this person every played D&D, or any other similar RPG? Maybe she's confusing D&D with regular board games (or perhaps, is indeed completely unfamiliar with how D&D actually works, though why she would be reading an article about D&D on Wired.com in that case is beyond me). Now I have the urge to snark....
