omorka: (Snape Loved Lily)

*ahem* Fair warning: It is now September and I am going to assume anyone who has not finished Harry Potter and the End of All Things Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies Terrible Secret of the Weasleys Deathly Hallows has already been thoroughly spoiled or doesn't particularly care. In this spirit, I am going to start using my Potterpuffs spoiler icons. This one isn't so much a spoiler, since 80% of us have been sailing on the Good Ship LOLLIPOPS (Love Of Lily Left Ire Polluting Our Poor Snape) since Book 2 or thereabouts. But beware.

I will, however, still put discussion of specific plot points behind a cut. And at this point, let me say that I am retroactively furious that Movie 5 left out what I think is one of Petunia's best scenes anyway, because OMFG does it leave us a whopping big hint in retrospect:

"They guard the wizard prison, Azkaban," said Aunt Petunia.

Two seconds' ringing silence followed these words and then Aunt Petunia clapped her hand over her mouth as though she had let slip a disgusting swear word. Uncle Vernon was goggling at her Harry's brain reeled. Mrs. Figg was one thing - but Aunt Petunia?

"How'd you know that?" he asked her, astonished.

Aunt Petunia looked quite appalled with herself. She glanced at Uncle Vernon in fearful apology, then lowered her hand slightly to reveal her horsey teeth.

"I heard - that awful boy - telling her about them - years ago," she said jerkily.

"If you mean my mum and dad, why don't you use their names?" said Harry loudly, but Aunt Petunia ignored him. She seemed horribly flustered.

- From OotP Ch. 2

That's the big one, there, although there are other little bits scattered throughout that chapter. In fact, it's entirely possible from this perspective to read the last thee books as being about Snape every bit as much as about Harry. It's also a rather delicious irony for Harry to mistake a reference about his mother and Snape for one about his mother and James.

Oh, and just for fun: Potter/Zork crossover macro

They also left out the most important bit of "Snape's worst memory."

Harry put together what he assumed, rather than what what really was.

Which, really, is what he always does. Darn him and his unreliable narratorness!

Hermione: Tell me, Harry, did Fred and George routinely beat you over the head during Quidditch practice.

Harry: Yeah, they said it was part of the warm-ups.

Hermione: We are so fucking doomed.

Harry: What was that?

Hermione: Nothing.

Harry's never been the sharpest hammer in the drawer - there's a reason that he didn't really end up in Ravenclaw...

Luckily for you, I finished the book last night. B hasn't started it, yet, but it is next on his list.

Some folks just get to read more than others, it seems. Not that we don't care, just that there isn't always that much time.

Spoilers make the baby Jeebus cry.
