I'm not going to be able to watch this show subtitled! We had to go back and re-watch the scene where Shinji meets the Last Angel in Japanese, so I could hear which names and honorifics they were using, and realized that I'm not going to be able to hear Yukito speaking Shinji's lines - that voice actor is so solidly dear, sweet Yuki for me, hearing him wemble and scream would just be Too Much.

Yes, CardCaptor Sakura has spoiled me for Evangelion. Hmm . . . considering the world-driving forces in both series, that's actually probably a Darned Good Thing.

in that case, i suggest you not watch Houshin Engi/Soul Hunter... the voice actor plays Sinkouyou, a mad clown demi-god.

oops, no, actually, i misread it... the Japanese voice actor who plays Kaworu also plays Sinkhouyou... Not Shinji. sorry...

Seriously, though, I started listening to that sequence and my first thought was "Wait, who is this guy who's not Touya hitting on Yuki? And what anime was I watching again?" Which just goes to show that Eros wins out over Thanatos every time for me . . .

Heh, I guess the gender/age/personality differences of the characters tends to throw me off, too. I can usually pick out Megumi Hayashibara when she's being loud and perky, but I'd have never guessed she was Rei.

Hyatt from Excel Saga is played by the same voice actress (in Japanese) as Ruri-chan from Nadesico. Near the end of Excel there was a bad Nadesico pun in which Hyatt did the Ruri voice and I went "OMG, it's the same person!". Quite fun.

I always enjoyed the gag that on both sides of the Pacific, they gave Rei to the hyper gal. The hypothesis is that they did this to TRY AND KEEP HER QUIET.
