I'm used to my life being strange, but the Wheel won't stop spinning these days . . . and I'm only going to be busier in the next few weeks.

This afternoon [livejournal.com profile] moontyger's mother called and asked if I knew how she could get in contact with her. I told her that the only contact information I had for her was her e-mail address. Now, I have in fact met her mother before, but only a couple of times. Having a the mother of a friend who is not speaking to me and who has chosen to skip town altogether call me to see if I knew how to contact her was bizarre to the point of being near-hallucinatory. (But - if you're reading this, Moontyger, call your mom.)

The Spouse is still under the weather. Moreover, the car has finally degraded to the point that even he doesn't trust it, at least on the freeways. The MIL will be taking me in to work in the mornings, and I'll be bussing home in the afternoons, until he manages to get it fixed. He wants to wait until I next get paid to take it in; I think this is rather late to wait, as I don't get paid until Thursday week. On the one hand, this is more crap that he doesn't need (and that I don't need him to have while he deals with my stuff); on the other hand, it does mean he gets an enforced vacation from driving stress for a while.

(This is also causing me to toy more seriously with the idea of purchasing a small electric scooter. Not that I could ride it to or from work, but it would mean that I would get a fair amount of local mobility without having to beg rides from him or others - to get to the Swan, for instance, or the grocery store down the street.)

The Black Swan was less buggy than it often is (probably due to the recent lack of rain and the unpleasant heat of today) and fairly breezy. The crowd was myself, A&A.H., DM, the Raven, assorted friends of AH's and DM's, and finally PB. DM brought his Precious along and played a few songs with the Irish session. We had a really bad waiter; I suspect he was new. We talked a little bit about the further-confounded state of Acronym politics, and I vented a bit to DM about my continued personal frustrations (which isn't fair to him, as he can't do anything about them right now even if he were willing). DM seemed displeased about the atmosphere up on the stage, although he didn't articulate exactly what he thought/felt was wrong/off. A&A were reasonably interesting conversationalists, though - far more than they have been when they've brought all of A's Middle Eastern Dance friends. She and I did a bit of mutual bitching about school coming back into session so soon.

PB's going to a wedding in Mexico, so he won't be at Movie Night tomorrow; AH is, of course, still at his con; and DM may or may not be able to be there (it depends on whether he gets other errands finished early enough). I'm going to bake something anyway, but I may hold off on the truffle cake. (Then again, when else am I going to get a chance before Winter Break?)

I haven't gained any rope back, but I haven't lost any in the past couple of days, either. I still don't know if what's at the bottom of the pit is a suicidal depression, or the total dissolution of my life as we know it, or something else altogether. I'd rather not find out, at least not the hard way. At least the wind ain't blowing . . .

OK. Thanks. I honestly don't know if she ever reads my LJ these days or not.

My mother doesn't work too hard at embarrassing me, but that's mostly because she doesn't ever hear about anything other than my work life (and that's probably best for all of us).
