The one night a year I ever watch TV
Mar. 5th, 2006 11:43 pmNot too bad an Oscars presentation. Jon Stewart didn't disappoint, although I though he harped on the poor hip-hop boys' excitement a bit too much. (I loved the end of the opening bit.)
Tom Hanks looks weird with longer hair now.
Is Jack Nicholson's face stuck in rabid hyena mode for the rest of his life?
What is up with all the metallic, neutral-tone, and black dresses? Doesn't anyone wear colors anymore? C'mon, ladies, don't cede that territory to J-Lo!
I want as much 'tude as Dolly Parton has when I'm her age.
I'm a bit disappointed that Enron lost to the penguins, but hey, environmental message - can't beat that. (Was anyone else hoping for an upset by Murderball?)
Seeing all the New Zealand faces again was amusing, especially since they thanked all the same people again.
Again, disappointed that Brokeback didn't win Best Picture, but I'm happy that Ang Lee got Best Director, and that the script also got recognized. The boys will just have to be happy with the nom . . . and with the statuette they'll get next year, or a few years down the line, for less groundbreaking work. I wish the Academy didn't do that, but it does, predictably. (And, in Ledger's case, that was what he was up against - Hoffmann has been owed this for years.)
I still need to see Walk the Line.

Doesn't really seem like there were any clear favorites this year.
(have you seen Hoffmann in State and Main? Good role for him.
I actually think Hanks's hair was longer in the taped segment than when he came back to hand out the award. Don't know if that was due to a hair piece for the segment, or if he had a trim between the pre-taped portion and the day of the actual awards.
Jack got to sit next to Kiera Knightley. I'd look like a rabid hyena if I were sitting there too.

Date: 2006-03-07 04:13 am (UTC)"Crash" won best pic. This is not an 'upset', as the press called it this morning. "Crash" was a damn fine filum. It earned that award.
Ang Lee should not have recieved a best director award. He owes us more than one good movie to make up for "Hulk" before he can recieve accolades.
I wanted "Murderball" to win. I would have accepted "Enron". The penguin film was not that great. I've seen numerous better nature documetaries on PBS this year alone.
Selma Hayek had the best dress evar! Her dress was asymetrical, but her, erm, body was still symetrical. It ws also a great color. That alone should have made up for the dull dresses. Also, J Lo was in a dull dress too, wasn't she?
I still need to see "Walk the Line".
