Mr. Blue Genes
Jul. 25th, 2003 02:34 amMovie Night tonight was PB (who didn't stay for the movie, as he has an art showing next week and needed to get some more work done on one of his pieces), DM, DG, and AH, along with the Spouse and myself; EW and the annoying M are out of town. I got to be queen of my little gaggle of gifted boys again. Gods, I enjoy that role far too much.
Baked a marbled pound cake for the dessert. Unfortunately, DM couldn't have any (due to dental surgery), and AH took merciless advantage of this by raving loudly and continuously about the cake, the frosting, etc. (For what it's worth, I think he really did enjoy it, but being in a one-up position on DM was just too good to pass up.) I like this recipe better than the all-chocolate one, I think - at least, this one was a lot moister. I used the same fudge frosting that I used on the all-chocolate one, though. PB, DG, and the Spouse all partook without complaint, although PB complaining about anything involving chocolate would be highly unusual. This one is simple enough that I think I can throw it together occasionally during the school year, too.
The Spouse showed the opening episode of Full Metal Panic, both episodes of Shinesman and Gattaca for the movie. I'm aware that a number of critics didn't like Gattaca, but any movie with Jude Law HoYay! and Gore Vidal as the arrogant boss is okay in my book. (Kings of good breeding!) I didn't even mind Uma Thurman, who often ruins movies for me. Of course, with this crowd, the MST3K remarks were flying fast and furious, especially between DG and AH.
AH hadn't realized that Saturday was DM's birthday, so I tipped him off. We're probably going to try to get together and do something, and it sounded like the Spouse was likely to be involved, at least for part of it. DG may or may not show up for part of it, also - if it involves watching a movie he hasn't seen, he's likely to show up. I need to make sure that everyone remembers about the aquarium and ferry trip next Saturday, as well. I'm going to see if Cost Plus has copies of the world music CD; if so, I'm going to get one for DM, as he seemed to enjoy that on Monday. (I've ordered one of the Carol Queen books for him, as well, but it's unlikely to arrive until Monday or Tuesday. Still, Amazon has surprised me on the shipping before - maybe I'll be lucky and it'll arrive tomorrow before I head out.)
I need to call the drop line and drop my Monday professional development class - I forgot to order the book. I'll still have sessions Tues-Thurs next week. I'm so running out of summer . . .
