Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] moontyger:

Name a fandom (name a few if you want) you know I know and I'll tell you:

1. The first character/person I first fell in love with
2. The character/person I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character/person everyone else loves that I don't
4. The character/person I love that everyone else hates
5. The character/person I used to love but don't any longer
6. The character/person I would shag anytime
7. The character/person I'd want to be like
8. The character/person I'd slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

I will return LotR and add Cardcaptor Sakura.

LotR - assume book continuity unless otherwise specified:

1) I feel silly saying this, after your answers, but - Sam, Sam, dear, sweet, caring, loyal submissive Samwise Gamgee. IMNSHO, he's the true hero of the books, not Frodo. (I also read him as the hero of the third movie.)

2) Faramir. I mean, he's just another captain of Gondor when you meet him, and he's too pure to be real - and then the whole fucked-up family life unfolds like a particularly fetid flower, and you realize he has to be that damn good to be worthy of Eowyn, and suddenly everything is okay. (That he now has David Wenham's face and voice for me doesn't hurt a bit, oh, no, it doesn't!)

3) I am not about the Legolas love. Yeah, I know, shocking, right? And I don't dislike the character, but - come on. He's an elf. He's 2000 years old. He has no personality flaws. There's no Hurt/Comfort axis on him. There's nothing there but the pretty (and maybe the HoYay).

4) I seem to be one of about seven people in the world who thinks Wormtongue is a sympathetic character, but I thought he was sexy even in just the books. Angsty, tricky, and dangerous - but there's obviously backstory on how he got that way, and he manages a noble enough end. Plus, he betrays his country out of unrequited love. If that's not bishi-level tragic, I don't know what is. (Yes, I am a Snapefan, too, why do you ask? What? Oh, no, this isn't a bale of Hurt/Comfort I'm holding; I don't know what you're talking about.)

5) This happened before I even finished the trilogy, but - I like Gandalf the Gray a lot. As soon as he becomes Gandalf the White, I lose all interest in the character. GtG has been deeply humanized (maybe even hobbitized a bit) by his long time wandering on Middle-Earth. GtW is just another Maiar.

6) Any of our four main hobbits. In any combination. Preferably involving mild bondage. Or I can just watch while they tie each other up. Either's fine with me.

7) This is tough, because I don't really identify with any of the characters. I'm tempted to cheat and say Estella Bolger, but she only appears in the appendices. And if I say Nienna it sounds really stupid - she's a Valar, you can't take her for a role-model, can you? Hmm. How about Goldberry River-daughter? At the very least, she's a healer and an excellent hostess.

8) Aragorn. Um, hello? You had your chance at Eowyn and you chose Arwen instead? (and, in the movie, you had better chemistry with Legolas! and Brego, for that matter!) Good thing for everyone involved that Faramir is ultimately a better man than he is.

9) Ah, my only OTP for this fandom (other than Faramir/Eowyn, which is fully canon) is Frodo/Sam. I don't care if it's consummated - hell, if it's well-written I'll even take it unrequited. But I don't care whether old John Ronald put it there or not, it's there now.

10) Gandalf/any hobbit. People who write that one (those four?) scare me, partly because they almost always make it smack of pedophilia and partly because they almost always write them without any reference to the actual mental/emotional traits of the characters. Fortunately, it's not common.

Oh, don't worry about that. I was interested to see how our answers differed!

Heh, I note we both have different types we prefer and neither one is particular healthy. Gee, I know, what a shock, right?

Cardcaptor Sakura - anime continuity only, as I haven't read the manga; original series only, not Tsubasa.

1) Yukito. Kind, gentle, and obviously a precog even before you find out anything else about him. Plus, he has two elementary school kids crushing on him and he doesn't hurt their feelings once. That's compassion that deserves reward.

2) Yamazaki. Good gods, I hated "the lying kid" until more than two-thirds of the way through the show - and then suddenly his actions became more important than his words. Plus, he's multi-talented - which tends to mean something in the context of the show.

3) Is it okay to say that I don't like Kero-chan? When he's in his plushie form, he's a complete idiot. He's loud, he doesn't think ahead, he's reckless, and he's not very sympathetic to Sakura. He's also a horrible teacher. In the episodes leading up to Yue's judgment, Shaoran teaches Sakura almost everything she knows about Clow, the cards, and the way the magic system works - which still isn't very much. Kero completely failed to train her, and it's only due to Mizuki-sensei's preparedness and Sakura's inborn luck that things turn out all right. Even afterwards, getting any useful information out of him about how to do things is like pulling teeth. (Keroberos is a little better, although he's still too ADHD for my taste.)

4) I don't think there is a character that everyone hates in this fandom. The only one I can think of who comes close is Ruby Moon, and I don't like her either.

5) Again, I can't think of one. I'm a bit leery of Terada-sensei after the latter parts of the series, but he's such a minor character in the anime that hardly counts.

6) Mmm, Yue. Or Toya. Or Yukito. Or any combination of the above. Actually, I'd probably shag Kinomoto-sensei, too, and he has the advantage that he's of age.

7) Mizuki-sensei. If there's anyone in the series who can Know, Will, Do, and Be Silent, damn, it's her. (Well, we can do without the predilection for liking them young she seems to have, but that's part of the way love/magic works in the series.)

8) Kero. See above. Good god, little plushie, get a hold of yourself! You served under the greatest sorcerer of the age, and a ten-year-old boy from Hong Kong can teach magic better than you?

9) I actually like all of the canon pairings; Toya/Yuki (or Toya/Yuki/Yue) is about as sweet as it gets, and Sakura/Shaoran works (just age them if you're going to write lemons, guys). Fujitaka/Nadeshiko is fun, too (kind of like James/Lily fic). The one non-canon ship that I enjoy entirely too much is Tomoyo/Meilin. "Wow, our wonderful, powerful mages have grown up and decided they don't want us, despite our caring and devotion! What are we going to do?" "Well, we'll always have each other!" *hot yuri action ensues*

10) People who write Terada/Rika and don't age her to at least legal age of consent squick me out. She's not a mage, and doesn't have the excuse that Eriol/Mizuki has, no matter how mature she is (and how much support there may be for it in the manga). (Also, not quite the same squick factor, but - Kero/anybody bothers me, just because he's not emotionally mature enough for anyone.)

See, I told you question #4 was evil. Generally, if there is someone everyone hates, you don't like them either.
