Since this is of no interest to those who are not familiar with the series, and possibly seriously spoilery for those who have not finished the anime, this is back here where it's away from prying eyes.

Why does no one ever try to teach Sakura any magic that isn't card-based, and specifically Clow-card-based? Neither Kero, nor Mizuki-sensei, nor anyone on the Li clan (nor Eriol, for that matter) ever even offers to teach her "regular" spellwork. Obviously, she's not too young, since Shaoran can do the paper-strip spells on his own. (What are those called? And are they the reason for so many card-based magic systems in anime? Maho Tsukai Tai! used a card-system, too, although in the TV series the cards were downplayed in favor of natural abilities.) So, why? Is it merely that learning to use the Clow Cards takes up all the magic skill she has? Or are the cards so much more powerful, and presumably always available, that no one thinks teaching her lesser spellwork will be useful?

Does Sakura ever really realize that she's related to Tomoyo? They're second cousins! Or, in the episode when she discovers that it's her great-grandfather's birthday - obviously, she realizes that he's Tomoyo's mother's grandfather, but I don't think she ever makes the connection that he's Tomoyo's great-grandfather, as well.

Sakura turned 10 on April 1 of the first year of the series. (I was unsure about the grade levels and ages in Japan, but in Kodocha, the main character has recently started 6th grade and she's 12. Several fansites also claim that Sakura is 10 when the show starts, and we know her birthday is April 1, so we'll go with that.) Toya is in the 11th grade, which IIRC means that he either is 17 when the show begins, or - if he's the youngest person in his grade - turns 17 very late in the 1st season (again, I don't know the cut-off date; he's a leap child, so he was born at the very end of February [Pisces. Figures.]). Let's assume he's 17, because it makes him and Mizuki dating when he's in the 9th grade less squicktastic. Sakura said her mother died when she was 3, and Tomoyo's mom says that Nadeshiko died at age 27. That means that she was 24 when Sakura was born - and 17 when Toya was. Maybe 18 if we shuffle dates creatively. Granted, she got married when she was 16, but - still, 17! Yikes!

What kind of flower is a nadeshiko, anyway?

It's very hard for me not to correct the appropriate names to Shaolin, Mei-Ling, Crow, and Errol.
