Just got back from the DreamTrybe show. It was a bit shorter than I'd really like, but it was a very high-energy show. "We Do Not Die" and "Come Down" rocked the house, and I think we successfully freaked the mundanes on "Four Directions." I was a bit worried early on that not many people would be there, but I needn't have worried - the place was packed, to the point that we couldn't move round on "Four Directions" - we just did the hand motions standing in one place. Not a great space - about the size of Dan's, with better layout, worse sound system, higher ceiling, and only slightly better ventilation (I reek of bad tobacco right now, and I tried to stay as far away from smokers as I could). Still, there was room enough to dance, and many of us did (I love it that our lack of inhibitions as a community extends to dancing in mundane public). One of the usual firespinners brought a pair of spinners set up with glowies instead of fire-pods and spun on a couple of the fast song, to great effect. The bar mixed me a Shirley Temple, but it wasn't very good - the Rose's sank to the bottom immediately.

[livejournal.com profile] fyredrago and [livejournal.com profile] phoenixstarfire were both there; it was nice seeing them again. The latter was working on an erotic-occult short story that will be pretty good once he's polished it up a bit; he didn't fall into the usual repetitive traps of erotica, which is pretty impressive, actually, and I got a fairly good turn-on speed-reading it. Also bumped into several of the TG people, and discussed the chant CD a bit more. In addition, one of the people who was there with the band was a dead ringer for KA aged twenty years. Fortunately, she didn't have KA's body language; I'd have been truly freaked if she did.

DM wasn't there. This might have been my fault; I couldn't get us both a ride, and I had thought he wasn't interested in going if he had to make his own way. I ended up getting their by a combination of feet and Metro bus. (Note to self: next time, cross Memorial at Studemont if traveling by foot. Walking across Memorial on Waugh is scary as Hel.) However, Fyredrago asked me whether he'd come with me, and when I told her he hadn't, she concluded that he wasn't going to make it.

Update: he just called me back. Actually, he'd tried to catch a ride with AH, who decided that he wasn't up for it, and he decided it wasn't worth it to try and make it on his own - by the time he got there, most of the show would have been over. Ah, well. He might come by Bagels tomorrow, and he promised he'd try and drag AH to the Swan on Wednesday. He also mentioned that he and AH may try and build a theramin, which should be at least amusing.

In other news, the reason I couldn't get a ride was the MIL's cell phone either isn't working or is being ignored. Considering that her wire home phone line is flaky at the best of times, this is a Bad Thing, and the Spouse and I are rather concerned. If she's ignoring us (like, say, she went straight home and fell asleep immediately, which would be out of character), I'm going to be miffed. If it's that her phone is flaking out, we're going to need to get it fixed - during an already busy week. Ecch.
