omorkaMovie Night was the usuals + DG. We did two anime episodes, and then EW mentioned that she had to leave early, so instead of the film (I think the Spouse finally settled on Canadian Bacon) we watched another animated film short, Voices From a Distant Star. Not bad, although it had been built up enough that I was a bit let down. DG stayed afterwards and we talked for a while, although mostly about trivial crud. I'm still finding it difficult to have a serious conversation involving myself, the Spouse, and at least one other person that doesn't devolve into trivial crud.
Found out today that the north house secretary never actually sent in my registration for the AP Statistics institute next week. The very nice person I spoke to on the phone at Rice said there was one slot left open in the class. I spent part of the afternoon playing phone tag with RR to find out if I would get reimbursed by the school if I registered on my own money, and when I finally caught her around 9 pm, she said I would, although she didn't know which budget would end up paying for it, the AP/GT one (which is where the money is supposed to come from) or the math department one (which would be easier for us to get to directly). I'll call them tomorrow and see if the slot is still open (I imagine it will be), and if it is, I'll take it. I am highly irritated with the secretary, who isn't going to be at our school next year (don't know where she's going). Paying for this out of pocket isn't impossible, but it's extremely inconvenient.
Utterly failed to get in touch with DM today. I was sort of hoping he'd show up for Movie Night, but I think realistically he has to be reminded about it. I'll give him a call tomorrow while I'm on the phone.
Formally aired the idea of the chant CD for the Acronym, and got a small but positive response. I really think this would be a popular idea if we can get it off the ground - but I'm not singing by myself, and only one or two people have volunteered to sing. I'd like to have six to eight of us, so we can do rounds. No one has made suggestions for chants yet; I'd like to include at least the Gayatri and Loy Isa Goy, both of which are traditional and thus have no rights issues. Some of the others that are of known authorship are also deliberately in the public domain; I need to do a little research and find out which ones.
