I got three hours of sleep. Maybe. Possibly less. I kept seeing the flicker from the candle on the altar and the internal storm would start up again.

The district data team should not be lead by someone with an elementary school background who protests when someone asks her to do math. If she does this again I will lay down a blizzard of statistical concepts that will cause her eyes to go really big and wide, and her big shiny sparkly earrings to spin around rapidly and fall off. Also, I will steal her job. (Not the earrings.)

Some of the faculty members still hadn't heard as of this morning. After the data team meeting let out early, I went over to the main campus (which has A/C again, yay) to try and bug my API for more details on the SAT prep class (it looks like the training will be around the middle of August; I also told her that I'm double-cert in English, which she hadn't known). She was in a meeting (of course), so I stole a chair from the custodians and camped her office. While I was there, the head of the drama department came over to chat. Over the next half-hour, we collected half a dozen people in front of her office - and two of them hadn't heard about Ms. Yi yet. Watching/feeling the shock hit them was almost as bad as being hit with it myself last night. The principals don't know any details about memorial services or funerals yet; the family may want to keep it private.

The person driving the bus today was a saint. He was cheerful, but not in that annoying, perky, shallow way. He was genuinely pleased to be able to take people from where they were to where they wanted to go; he took obvious joy in being able to see so many different people and types of people, and greeted as many as he could in what he guessed to be their native language. (I'd never heard a black man say "good morning" in Vietnamese before.) He cheered up a small child who was tired from waiting in the hot sun and didn't want to be on a crowded bus anyway. Since when do bodhisattvas drive public transportation? Anyway, after yesterday's reminder of unutterable Harm among humans, I was deeply relieved to meet a manifestation of genuine Weal. (I would say "bless him," but it would be gilding the lily.)
