Confirmed: I really just don't like the taste of alcohol very much, nor the taste of hops. Beer is just not ever really going to work for me, nor any liquor neat.

Not that this is any great loss - the gouty aren't supposed to be drinking much anyway - but it's kind of nice to know that this isn't just a psychological thing.

I actually quite like the scents of a lot of types of alcohol - rum and some of the liqueurs in particular. I just seem to prefer them diluted to near-homeopathic levels in weak-ass cocktails, or in recipes that will cook off the ethanol (like a couple of tablespoons of bourbon in a pecan pie).

I've never had a single positive thought on the smell of beer, though.
