I do, I do! Haven't done much writing for it, but I read and meta for the MCU.

What kind of arguments are people having? What sorts of viewpoints are being discussed? Mainly just curious. Is it a "SLASH IS WRONG I H8 J00" sort of thing, or do people have intelligent viewpoints on it?

Me, I'm not a slash person. But I view it as one of those things that falls into Rule 34: If it exists, there's porn of it.

Granted, when it comes to my little go to character, Peter from Real Ghostbusters, I'm immensely protective of him because he holds a lot of personal value to me. I grew up with him, he's been my favourite cartoon character since forever, and his creator has become one of my best friends. As a result, I treat and respect Peter like he's one of my characters, and I'm a lot more picky and prickly about how people use/portray him. But in the end, I can't control what people write/create, and if I don't like it, I don't read it.

All that aside though, I've come to respect your slash fiction, after getting to know you as a person. Because while a lot of slash writers write because having two guys yiff is hot, people like you and Peoria have a much more educated view on sexuality and various social equalities and incorporate those values. It doesn't mean I'm going to sit down and read those particular genres of stories, and it doesn't mean I'm going to agree with you guys on Peter's sexuality (I think he's straight as a ruler myself, but I have my reasons). But I understand the cultural and social reasons as to WHY you portray him as gay/bi, and thus respect that. :)

There are a lot of people in the Monkees fandom - young ones, not ones who were around when the show was big, although I still don't much like it from them - who claim that slashing the characters from the show is somehow disrespectful to the actors who played them. Mostly these people are on Facebook, so I don't have to deal with them, but the nice ladies who run some of the independent fansites and fic archives keep getting nastygrams of various sorts from them. In a couple of cases, one recently, they've even gotten threats.

(Meanwhile, the three surviving boys do things like swat each other on the butt and kiss each other on the cheek onstage; I think they know perfectly well what their pervy fangirls like and got used to being fapped to a long time ago.)

The New Kids are like that. They kiss each other and grab each other's crotches and stuff these days because it's all about the fan service, and it drives the fans wild.

I can sort of understand the squick factor with the Monkees. RPF is an odd grey area, especially when the Monkees are a weird combination of actor and character. They pretty much played themselves, so when people say they're slashing the CHARACTERS, it's easy for other people to say that the characters and actors were the same people.

In the end though, chill pills definitely need to be handed out. As silly and camp as the Monkees have always been, I don't think writing a little slap and tickle about them is going to do any harm.

Tell me about it. Just yesterday I was reading a thread on FFA with people arguing about and applying negative terms to "people only in fandoms for the slash". I had really hoped we were past that by now, but it seems not.
