So, finally got out to see Zombieland. Loved it. I hate horror movies, I hate modern zombies, I especially hate viral zombies (way to miss the point of the myth, Hollywood). This was meta that blew them all away. This is the American Shaun of the Dead. I mean, SotD is a better film, but c'mon, it's hard to beat Pegg and Frost.
*glances both ways*
Yeah, okay, I was contractually obligated to like it. But no, seriously, I would have loved the meta anyway. Interactive text is one way to this text-primary girl's heart. The gore was so OTT it didn't bother me a bit.
*snerk*
Oh, hell. Tell 'em about the Twinkie.
*falls on floor laughing*
Whew. No seriously, this is a derivative work from opening credits to stinger. It owes debts not only to the works it references directly and to SotD, but to Supernatural (especially the music) and a few other shows I'm probably missing. And it's aware of it; it glories in it. It's not great cinema, but it's so. Much. Fun. The actors are also all having a lot of fun, it looks like. (And I'm a sucker for a good Jewfro.)
Also, Georgia makes a remarkably good substitute for east Texas. Same sort of limestone under the greenery, I'm guessing.
