RIP Peg Bracken. All joking aside, about five of the recipes in my repertoire are straight out of the I Hate To Cook Book or its sequels/rewrites. It cuts through an astonishing amount of cookery cant that was popular in the other cookbooks of the time (I'm looking at you, Betty Crocker). It's even arguably a feminist artifact, although I suspect Bracken would have disavowed the label.
And it is apparently out of print. Who the hell let that happen?
