Remember back when that TV show, "Big Love," started showing and prompted a fair amount of pundit-hand-wringing about polygamy? I posted a couple of items about it, including my personal opinion that as long as it was gender-equitable - that is, polyandry, polygyny, group marriage, and chain marriage were all permitted, rather than just polygyny, which is what has historically been the case in polygamous cultures - then I had no problem with it, as it fell under "what legally responsible people want to do with their bodies, hearts, and homesteads." Group marriage and chain marriage would be helpful for those of my poly friends who want to stabilize their arrangements in ways that allow for everyone to have health insurance or proper shares in the housing, and both they and polyandry would, along with gay marriage, help to bury the patriarchal notion of marriage as a transfer of female property from one male to another.

Anyway, it appears that Canada is finally having to worry about polygamy. I'm a little confused about the attitudes about polygamy in general expressed by some of the people in the article, as opposed to the group in question (which is exceptionally squinky); I have trouble imagining how someone who is culturally Christian can think that some of its heroes - Abraham, Jacob, Solomon - were not merely misguided but actively moral reprobates for taking multiple wives.

Also, this story on Christian nudism makes me all kinds of happy. Baring the "handiwork of God"? Now, that's some body-positive church-talkin' there.
