Cow Orkers
Sep. 15th, 2004 06:37 pmSo we had our first early release day of the year. It was not a complete loss instructionally, but that's about all I can say for it.
Yesterday, one of my new kids, henceforth Debate Kid, decided he was going to twit me by mentioning Ayn Rand during class just to watch me twitch. Of course, everyone else wanted to know why I was shuddering and making banishing signs, so we explained - he in his terms, I in mine - who Rand was and why she was the bee's knees/evil and rude.
Another kid was just sort of shaking his head at our explanation. As I tried to get everyone refocused on Precal, he muttered "badger badger" under his breath. This derailed the class for a couple of minute while I tried to verify that he'd said what I thought - at first, he denied having said anything, and I had to ask "mushroom, mushroom?" for him to admit that he had, in fact, said anything at all. Then he was shocked that I knew what he was talking about.
On the way out, Debate asked me seriously what my issue with Rand was, and we had a brief conversation about capitalism and its failings. He had to go on to class, but as he left he said "we'll have the rest of this conversation sometime soon." Ai.
But anyway, I and GM made our presentation to the faculty today. Some people are really rude - I wonder how they think they can maintain a good classroom if they have no classroom manners themselves? And GM really didn't let me say much. Most people, I think, just want their TAKS data in an easy-access form, which they will get. A number of other people wanted things we specifically said didn't have access to - more not listening. We did get a few good suggestions out of it, though. I'll have to corner GM during advisory tomorrow and talk about the exit questions we got.
