W00t! Beads!

The UPS guy didn't knock when he delivered the beads. I checked that door at 2 pm; Spouse came home at 4:30 and found the box at the door. I don't mind them leaving the box at the door (or, better, in the Harry closet), but I do wish they'd knock.

Ah, but here they are! I am having somewhat less of my usual draconic urge to dump them in a pile on the floor and curl up on them, probably because about half of these are glass rather than gemstone strands, and a non-trivial proportion of the gem strands are freshwater pearls, which are very pretty but not so good for nesting on. This is much more a run-fingers-through-and-cackle-wildly set, here.

Speaking of the freshwater pearls, I bought a set of 10 randomly-picked strands of cheap dyed pearls because they were on sale and I had a mad idea about trying to recreate a necklace I saw in a magazine once. I don't quite have the right color/size combinations to do that necklace, but I can try something close. I may also do something close to a traditional strand of pearls with one set of sort of champagne-colored ones. That leaves about five strands, though, that I'm going to have to figure out what I want to do with . . . not that I need to figure that out immediately, of course.

I have a set of five rainbow fluorite short points, which are going to become part of something else, and a set of five bear-claws in what were supposed to be random semi-precious stones but which turned out to be four red jaspers and one snowflake obsidian. (At least it'll be symmetrical.) And, of course, 16 inches of quartz points; just add spacers. That one I can probably do during the day on Wednesday.

I bought a number of glass beads in leaf and flower shapes with gold and/or aurora finishes in order to do an autumn necklace. The colors are darker in person than they were in the catalog; I may have to go back and order some gold or yellow seed beads to brighten the piece up. Think, think . . . on the other hand, that raises the cost of the piece over the ready-made catalog piece that inspired it. :(

Hmm, hmmm . . . off to add to my Hoard now . . .

Ah yes, but even if it costs a bit more, your piece will be one-of-a-kind, not something that anyone will look at and think, "Oh yeah, I saw that in the Such-and-Such Catalog". That's how I market my more expensive pieces, by playing up the "not mass-produced" angle.
