Mostly Harmless
Apr. 29th, 2005 11:13 pmI could point out how merrily the HHGttG movie plays with the explicit and implicit structures of being a movie, down to the music. (The trailer did a good job of un-meta-ing that particular bit of metahumor.)
Or, I could point out that, unlike the LotR movies, which stayed relentlessly true to the spirit of the books while running roughshod over parts of the letter, this doesn't so much depart from the text as meander off, and while I would have a hard time arguing that it was true to the spirit of the books, it seems to be very true to the flavor of Adams's universe.
Or, I could roll over and gurgle in fangirlish happiness that I get to listen to Alan Rickman and Bill Nighy in the same movie
Or, I could modestly mention that I brought my towel to the movie, and thus attracted the interest of the hardcore SF fen in front of us, who wore not only towels but bathrobes.
But, instead, I will merely delight in yelling YARN BARF! at the top of my lungs. Because, really. Of all the fandom-crossovers that could have happened, I wasn't expecting that one.
Hee. YARN BARF!
