this is honestly the hardest poll i've ever taken.

i still haven't answered...i've just looked at it for about 10 minutes, wondering.

I find the ethnic cuisine I want most right now isn't even Tex-Mex, but proper Southern/Texas breakfast, complete with eggs, sausage, AND bacon. Also, I want a chicken-fried steak, preferably as part of a Dude sandwich from Dairy Queen.

We eat sushi and Italian, because they're available, and miss (good) Tex-Mex and Cajun, because they're not (no remoulade in the supermarket, frex). We've found the web site of a local Cajun restaurant that we haven't tried yet, though.

Mmm...Dairy Queen...

The two restaurants I am guaranteed never to get to live near are Dairy Queen and Sonic.

There is a long-standing in-joke between the Spouse, the MIL, me, and a couple of other people that in order to get to a clothing-optional Pagan event anywhere in Texas, you must pass a Dairy Queen on the way, usually within five miles of the event.

Mmm . . . nudity and soft-serve in the Texas October heat . . .

Oooh, I left out Cajun. Bad me.

As a child of the Deep South, I was always confused whenever we went anywhere that didn't put either cream gravy or sausage gravy over their breakfast biscuits, even though I personally am not a fan of breakfast sausage.

I'll not go on about grits, as those are anathema even to some Texans . . .

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, grits.

I have finally figured out how to explain grits to Yankees. Oatmeal is a delivery system for butter and sugar, and grits are one for butter and salt.

I grew up eating butter and jam on biscuits, although I always knew that was a personal preference. The best thing about biscuits, though, was broiling the leftovers with butter a day afterwards for breakfast. Yum.

I selected Italian because it's sort of a "default cuisine" for me (growing up around Detroit will do that to you!), but in fact I will eat nearly all of these. Vietnamese is probably the only one I would actually avoid (I've tried it, and it's really hard for me to find something I can eat), and I'm limited in Thai and Greek -- the former because it's often too incendiary even for me, and the latter because I don't like olives. But all the others listed I will eat quite readily.

but I want all of the above!

...except Italian, because I don't like pasta much. I know, freakish.

i don't like pasta, either.

being a vegan (somewhat) often gets me those "omg wtf" looks about that fact.

Ooo, yeah. I'm both a meat-eater and a pasta-lover, and the majority of the recipies I know that I can serve to vegans are pasta dishes. Actually, the majority of my vegetarian recipies, vegan or not, are pasta dishes.

I suppose if you're ever in town I'll have to resort to the veggie red beans and rice and leave out the cheese. That, or beans-and-greens stew.
