A Fibercraft Update
Jan. 9th, 2005 12:38 amHmm . . . this got interrupted in the middle, and I almost decided not to post it, but - you know, I like what I'm doing, and I'm not going to worry too much about whether everyone else does or not.
Some recent Finished Objects:
I tried the Marsupial Tote from the first Stitch 'N' Bitch in the Rice colors. (The yarn is the Lamb's Pride worsted recommended in the book.)
Pre-felting (size demonstrated by dear Yuki Soma):

Post-felting (again, with Yuki for comparison):

While it came out okay, I was expecting it to shrink much more vertically than horizontally, as that's what I'd seen in other people's pre and post photos using the same yarn (and, indeed, the same pattern). It did shrink more vertically, but not by very much. I also should have swatched both colors instead of just the blue, since clearly the gray felted less thoroughly. But now I know to do that next time.
I also finally finished the blue worsted lace scarf; now I get the excitement of blocking with a zillion pins! (I should invest in some blocking wires if I'm actually going to tackle Cobweb next.)
Here's a picture of it unblocked:

I'll try and post another one after it's blocked, at which time the pattern should be much more visible. I'm thinking about using the same pattern for the MIL's Giftmas scarf (we picked up the yarn on Tuesday, and the hat's going to be a plain tam).
I also finished the Ravenclaw (movie colors) scarf for
memeslayer; unfortunately, the Ravenclaw Ninja photo totally didn't turn out. :(
Projects currently on needles:
Knit -
Slytherin scarf for DM (on stripe 5 of 17)
Suede poncho (about 1/3 done and in a holding pattern)
the Striped Wool Cape From Hel (a little less than 1/4 done, and I'm totally going to need a longer needle)
the vest to use up the extra Homespun (maybe 1/6 done? hard to tell - haven't picked it up in a while)
Crochet -
the Giant Granny Square poncho (somewhere around 1/2 done, another use-this-stuff-up project)
the Mushroom Hat (maybe 1/8 done and in a holding pattern)
I also have the yarn for a tam for myself (from a Knitter's Magazine pattern), the yarn I bought over summer for Cobweb, and the aforementioned yarn for a scarf-and-hat set for the MIL as part of her Giftmas present. I'd like to do a set of armwarmers before it gets too warm to wear them (although, now that I'm thinking about it, they might well be useful in over-air-conditioned spaces in summer). And I'm going to try to make the remaining two house scarves, and possibly a couple of book-Ravenclaws, over the course of the year.
So much yarn, so little time . . .
