omorkaOh, my fucking gods, this turkey is huge. I thought I was going to have to shift the oven rack all the way down. (Fortunately, I didn't, but just barely.)
Good thing Mom's recipe starts the night before.
All I have to do tonight is start the turkey, babysit it until I can turn it down and go to bed . . . and freeze a batch of vanilla ice cream to go with the pies, which can run while I'm babysitting the turkey. (Hmm. Just went and did that. There are dark flecks in the ice cream from the vanilla. It tastes fine, but I'm thinking I should get another bottle if this one's precipitating the solids out like that.)
In the morning, I'll need to:
- start the bread if I decide we need bread (I'm kinda thinking we won't, though; we'll have dressing and two types of potatoes - do we really need another starch?)
- make the cranberry-orange relish (15 min. + time to clean the food processor)
- make the chocolate mousse filling for the pie (~ 30 min, but low impact; the mixer does 90% of the work)
- peel and boil the potatoes (45 min.)
- peel and simmer the sweet potatoes (45 min.)
- prep a pitcher of iced tea (20 min., again, the gadget will do most of the work, but I'll have to be done with the mixer and/or bread machine by then)
- mash the potatoes (10 min.)
- send Spouse for ice (??)
