I went in to pick up my keys and my Calculus book, and discovered that (unlike the other campuses) the high schools have their data meeting on the 5th, not the 3rd. Since DM finally called back yesterday (and semi-apologized for not calling earlier) and we'd planned to meet on Thursday, right before Movie Night, I now need to reschedule with him. Darn. However, it's probably all for the best, since the data meeting is not at the Administration Building, but at the "ASF," a building I have never been to before which is halfway to Lionville. Trying to get there by bus without a map would have been . . . interesting.

I tried to go talk with RR, but Mrs. G called a meeting with the specialists (over the intercom - she couldn't be bothered to phone their office, much less take the elevator from her office to theirs to tell them herself!) right when I got there. In the brief time I did have, I verified that (a) we still have an opening to fill in the Math department, (b) the head of the AP Department has left, and (c) we have a turnover of approximately 40-50 new teachers in the building. Not all of those are new to the profession, mind you, but almost all of them are new to the district. I may throw up. :Q

Our counselors' office is in even greater disarray than normal. Neither the secretary in charge of the Grad Center nor the general counselor's secretary could tell me anything about our AP scores. I suspect they're sitting on the desk of our least competent counselor - in addition to her usual incompetence, she's suffered a death in her family this summer, and no one wants to try and push her to get anything done. (Of course, that means that one of the other counselors should volunteer to take over things like AP stuff for her until she's in a better state, but did that occur to those work-shirkers?) And we've lost one competent and one semi-competent counselor, although fortunately one competent one is staying.

I got a peek at the master schedule. I have three preps on A-days and two on B-days. Okay, technically 5A is only half a prep extra - it's on-level Precalculus, and my other two preps are Pre-AP Precal and AP Stats. But couldn't they even do me the courtesy of scheduling the Stats classes both on the same day? I can see that B-day is going to be my better day again (especially since I have the same off-schedule as last year - 1A and 4B).

I hope four days before the students come back is going to be enough time to get organized. But it's okay. Good stuff is going to happen this year whether it wants to or not - my kids are seniors, the math club is in good shape, the chess club will start again, and I'm ensconced right where I want to be - with the smart juniors, many of the smart seniors, and the seniors who want to try.

Something good will happen . . . more weal than harm.
