Well, I obviously don't share the interest in art, although I am definitely interested in artists, which accounts for its popularity. Same for "drawing."

"Witchcraft," "mythology," "pagan," and "occult" are all examples of things I think I have adequately covered by what's already in my interest list, although I might add "mythology," as it's the least close to what I have listed.

I already have "shojo anime" in my interests, and as I'm not interested in blowin' stuff up and hurling Super-Saiyan fireballs across the screen, I don't really feel the need to add anime in general. It does mean, though, that it doesn't show up as a common interest with (for example) memeslayer, which is an issue.

"Cats" is probably a function of the number of Pagans on my friends lists. I like cats, but I'm not fanatical about it, and ever since Miss Kitty died, I'm not owned by one, so it's not a large enough part of my life to list as an interest.

"Love" and "sex" are awfully general. There aren't too many people who aren't interested in those, right? Again, I have more specific aspects of these listed, like polyamory and sexuality, and I didn't feel the need to list the general.

"Computers," "movies," "philosophy," and "poetry" are all things that typical geeks are into, and as Queen Geek, most of my friends will like. I'm not a hacker, and not a visual person; I don't read Kant and Schopenhauer for fun; and I don't write poetry well, nor read it often, so while these are all things I enjoy, I didn't feel a need to list them over things that are closer to my center. I've debated adding "philosophy," but my interest in it is largely subsumed by interests in theology/thealogy/polytheology and worldreading.

"Chocolate" and "walking" - nope, sorry, wrong number.

"Nature" is true for me, but again, so general as to be almost meaningless. Do I have environmentalism on my interest list? If not, I probably ought to add it.

"Learning" I'm adding as soon as this posts. That definitely should be on there.

"History" and "literature" are the natural mates for "mathematics," and I am interested in them, but not enough to call them out.

It wouldn't work for me. :( It said I don't have enough unusual shared interests. Guess it shows what I have often told people who told me I am one of a kind: I am practically a stereotype of the geeky Pagan gamer chick. Still, rather depressing. I wanted to see what it came up with!

Putting anime in general might not be a bad idea. IIRC, you liked Read or Die and KareKano, neither of which are shoujo.

I think I'll add learning as well.

When I tried to do the meme, it said that I don't have enough unusual shared interests for it to work. I'd better rectify that.

I wonder how uncommon an interest has to be before it calls it an "unusual" one.

I thought Kare Kano was shojo-y enough to count . . . and I can't really say I enjoyed it, especially towards the end when all the Gainaxy Visual Shit started showing up. I'm really not an anime geek in the traditional sense (even if I did watch Akira raw back in 1993 and stuck around).

There are two schools of thought on shounen/shoujo/etc. The first is what I like to call the technical school. They define the shoujoality of a work strictly by its target audience, determined by the magazine that the manga ran in. For example, Kodomo no Omocha(Child's Toy) was published in Ribon, a shoujo magazine, so it's shoujo. Dragonball Z was published in Shounen Jump, so it's shounen. No arguments. Shows that aren't based on a manga are IIRC classified by the stations, timeslot, and advertisements of their TV broadcast.

I refer to the other school as the thematic school. It attempts to define works based on thematic elements like art style, plot, characters, and so forth. As this is very vague, the thematic school is not very popular.

The technical school classifies KareKano as shoujo because the manga ran in a shoujo magazine. However, the manga author apparently cut ties with the anime because it was taking a different direction than the manga(hence, the sudden ending). Whether it would be shounen or not according to the thematic school is not something I can comment on, because I only watched a few episodes of KareKano. But since Gainax is known for producing shounen, I suspect that the show had many shounen elements added in. Either way, my off the cuff comment was wrong. Sorry!

My personal opinion is that anyone who claims not to like shounen at all just hasn't seen the right show yet. Shows like Rurouni Kenshin and Slayers seem to have good cross-fandom appeal. With your RPG background, I think you'd find the latter in particular to be entertaining.

Thematically, I would classify Kare Kano as shojo with strong WTF! tendencies, but yeah, it's Gainax. It's a shojo coming-of-age in the same way FLCL is a shonen coming-of-age.

It's not that I don't like shonen at all, it's just that the only anime I have a strong enough interest to list in something like this is shojo. If I just list "anime" by itself, someone who knows how long I've been in the fandom and my age will assume Macross, Gundam, Ranma, Tenchi, A-ko, etc., and that simply isn't the case.

Still need to see Fushigi Yugi . . .
