Bi-Ped Talk, Part 36
Jun. 20th, 2004 03:34 amThe show tonight was . . . odd.
I like the Axiom as a performance space, but it doesn't really come with its own clientele - there's not a group of people who would be there on Saturday night no matter who's playing. And not all of the Beans crowd wants to try and wrangle the traffic downtown. So, the crowd was small - not as small as the last time we played there, but still smaller than Beans is really comfortable with.
Neither DM nor DG actually showed up. Bummer. Probably just as well, though - one of the reasons DG doesn't go to Zoomack's, and the primary reason DM doesn't, is because the bar is very close and smoky, and the door guy tonight was puffing on a big, fat, coprolalic stogie. Ugh.
Jimb kept having technical difficulties - I think he broke two strings, his effects pedal wasn't working quite right, and he kept getting feedback out of his speaker. There was also some issue with the monitors; Beans couldn't hear the band well, and I think the reverse was also true. At onepoint, Beans actually came back from an instrumental break into the wrong song ("3 Min. Kitty Carlisle" rather than "Bally Hoo"), which threw the band for a loop.
It was nice to see people, and I enjoyed getting to dance, but this sort of has me worried about whether the band can survive the closing of Zoomack's place.
