I bet a lot of those are available online for free here (http://www.archive.org/movies/prelinger.php).

Wow -- a blast from the past! I'm not old enough to remember the days when the USA was the Great 48 States or when Beijing was Peiping, but I do remember the filmstrips and movies from that time period. I wonder who that fellow was who seemed to narrate a lot of them -- a somewhat oratorical voice, a bit deep and authoritative sounding, with a slight northeastern accent. The ones you pointed out are pretty dated, which makes for the novelty appeal, but I have to wonder if some of the same ones I watched about science and history are still being played but now on DVD. On the subject of nostalgiac educational materials, I also remember from my science class a globe of the moon with the far side unadorned, because it was made before a satellite took the first time took photos of the far side of the moon. What a trip! Literally and otherwise, of course.
