Oh, gaaaaawdzzs, our TAKS scores suck.

Suck suckity sucky suck.

Not mine. Mine are fine. (None of my kids failed. One of mine aced the math section.) I mean the school. Ramton is in serious shite.

Maybe they'll fire Mrs. G? No, I really don't want them doing that - they'll replace her with someone worse. But I'm dreading the draconian measures they'll impose on us next year.

Silver lining - I peeked at the rough-draft of the schedule for next year during our meeting to talk about the TAKS scores. 2 Stats, 3 Pre-AP Precal, 1 on-level Precal. Not too bad. (If enough Bearville kids signed up for Stats, I'll get 3 and 3, which would be cooler than liquid nitrogen under a ceiling fan in Greenland.)

One of my seniors is going down hard - he put off the exam until the last minute, when he needed to make at least a 75 to pass. He isn't going to pass this semester. I don't think this is going to keep him from graduating, since it's not a required course, but he might need it just to have enough credits.

Several other seniors had major senioritis and gave up this last nine weeks. They're not going to pass either. However, they all did the addition and none of them need the class to graduate. I'm disappointed, but it was their choice.

None of my juniors appears to be failing (other than the one who never shows up to class). This is a good thing. I have one near-miss who hasn't taken his exam yet, and one near-miss who wouldn't have made it - except that she passed the TAKS test, and everyone who passes gets a 5 point bonus to his or her semester grade just for passing. So she just barely squeaked by, with a 69.6 that rounded up to a 70 for the semester, plus the five points, which lets her grade-average her 65 from the last semester. Brinksmanship makes me want to throw up. She (correctly, IMHO) decided not to take Calculus next year, but she doesn't want to skip a year of math for fear of not remembering anything when she gets to college, so next year she's taking . . . AP Stats. Another three for three . . .

I have a feeling you are not alone in the suckage of scores. The "higher standard" killed a BUNCH of my kids - my 6th grade campus lost its "recognized" status due to the math test - and the 7-8th grade campus might've done the same . . . they're ALREADY starting the pressure on me to look at all those special ed kids to see about changing their TAKS status. Next year will NOT be fun . . .

Heh. Y'all have a "recognized" status to lose. We're treading whitewater just to not get labeled "low-performing."

And we have the same issue with the SpEd kids. Fortunately, my watch is on the other end of the spectrum - my concern is just making sure they don't make my kids re-test unnecessarily to raise the school's scores.
