We had our last department meeting of the year just after school today, which was pointless - we didn't actually talk about anything related to, you know, math or students or anything like that. On the other hand, three of our retirees from last year came by to say hello and pay respects to those who are retiring this year, and we had finger food and cake for the retirees.

Until the lights went out. Fortunately, Ms. Q (who I am very glad to see go; it will improve both her life and the kids' immensely) suggested, since the computer didn't go out with the lights, that we could turn on the overhead projector. This worked fine.

For about fifteen minutes. Then the power to the whole building went out.

Fortunately, the Spouse was able to leave work a little early and come get me. The power finally did come on again just before her arrived. The security guy said it wasn't just our building, either - the whole block went out, including the middle school, which hadn't dismissed yet when it went.

Lesson for today: be glad you're not alone in the dark with 300 seventh graders. Also, keep your flashlight handy at all times.

The power has gone out at my jr. high several times this year - I've added the flashlight to my arsenal of "crap in the drawer for emergencies" (right next to the candy bar, the bandaids, and the koolaid juice-pouch) - my office is a former storage closet in the library - absolutely no windows, so I can see nothing. It was extra-special fun when the lights went out a couple of weeks ago during the TAKS test . . .

ok, this is random and off-topic. but i'm glad that people like you* exist...and esp. on my friends list!

thank you for letting me read!

*people like you = people over the age of 18 who really aren't into drama and the evils surrounding that but instead are informed and intelligent and don't feel the need to flame the world.
