This time it's from [livejournal.com profile] solidfoamsoul:

Step 1. Put your iTunes on random.
Step 2. Post the first line or two from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3. Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly. NO GOOGLING.

A couple of modications to fit my music collection and make this more fun:

A) I'm skipping any tunes with no lyrics.
B) I'm also skipping songs that have a play count of 0, since it's unlikely that I know the lyrics yet.
C) If a song starts with the chorus, I'm posting the first line of the actual first verse.
D) I have a *lot* of covers. If the same song comes up more than once, I'm skipping it, and I'll take *any* artist who legit did the song as a correct answer no matter which cover was actually played.
E) I'm screening replies, so multiple people can guess the same song and it's not a speed trial; we'll score by total points. I'll post results after about 24 hours.

In case anyone wanted to know the seed, I'm starting with Holst's "Mars" and hitting shuffle.

#10 is "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield.

#11 is "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys.

#17 is "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC.

A couple of the others are pinging a vague familiarity, but I can't pin them down.

5 points (I'll give you the bobble on the Carlisle, I'm so happy more than one person knew it)!

Not familiar with enough Buffett to get that without Googling.

Head, not so clear tonight.

4. …"1963", by Too Much Joy?

9. I'm separating this one out because I had to cheat on it and it's REALLY GODDAMNED EMBARRASSING BEYOND BELIEF. It sounded so familiar, but I couldn't tell what it was, so I finally Googled it (which totally invalidates this one, I know) and HOLY CRAP I NEED MY FAN CLUB MEMBERSHIP REVOKED IMMEDIATELY ON ACCOUNT OF I SUCK.
"Section 11 (A Long Day Continues / We Sound Amazed)", by The Polyphonic Spree, which is one of my favorite tracks of theirs and it's awesome and wonderful and I botched it.

SON, I AM DISAPPOINT.
(And by "SON", I mean "ME".)

10. "For What It's Worth", by CSN&Y
11. "Wouldn't It Be Nice", by the Beach Boys
12. "Welcome to the Jungle", by Guns and Roses
17. "You Shook Me All Night Long", by AC/DC
20. "Time After Time", by Cyndi Lauper

I KNOW 4 is off, but it's sticking in my head so I'm gonna go with it. And I'm still really, REALLY embarrassed by 9. Geeze.
(I cheated on a couple of others as well, but I was mostly more immediately curious instead of having that nasty surprise on the others.)

SPOUSE I AM DISAPPOINT okay, not really, but I really did think you'd get that one. I'll forgive you because you got the TMJ, which I though was too obscure for words - I'll even give you the point even though you were off by a year. (You still don't get the points for #9, though.)

6 points!

12. Welcome To the Jungle, Guns n Roses
15. Every Rose Has Its Thorn, Poison
17. You Shook Me All Night Long, ACDC
20. Time After Time, Cyndi Lauper

This quiz made me wonder how many brain cells I have devoted to remembering MTV videos from the 80s.

6 points, and let me just say yay! Someone got the Pet Shop Boys, and (more importantly) the Poison! Dang, I was going to be embarrassed if no one else remembered that one. Also, kudos on getting #5, because I wouldn't have recognized that one from its first line.

And for anyone in our generation, the answer is "too many".
