Apr. 11th, 2004 05:37 pm1. What do you do for a living?
I teach AP Statistics, Pre-AP Precalculus, and assorted other bits of mathematica to ethnically diverse urban high-school students.
2. What do you like most about your job?
I get to interact with the brightest and most dedicated of a very interesting group of students.
3. What do you like least about your job?
Standardized high-stakes testing, the administrators whom it drives berzerk, and the paperwork it generates (both directly and indirectly).
4. When you have a bad day at work it's usually because _____...
A meeting or other timewaster related to #3 takes away time from #2 - or the kids have decided to be right bastards this week (the second is more rare but hurts worse).
5. What other career(s) are you interested in?
Collegiate academia in its various forms, perhaps media watchdogging or editing. When I was in high school, I wanted Ivars Petersen's job, but he still has it. I've occasionally thought about music, stage acting, or voice acting, but I'd never make enough to live on at any of those.
