I spent a bit of brainpower today considering a bit of fic about the RGB crew getting together for the events of "Army of Ghosts."
Unfortunately, I never watched Extreme Ghostbusters, and I'd pretty well have to include that crew if it were toon universe. I could do it as movie-group, but... eh.
Here's the one bit I definitely would have done- although the proton packs are effective against Cybermen, there's just too damn many, and our team is trapped in the firehouse with their backs, so to speak, against the wall:
"Guys!" Winston shouted down the firepole. "Have you got the doors barricaded yet? They're comin' faster than I can fry 'em!"
Peter and Ray grunted as they shoved their backs against the wooden lockers, pushing them the last few inches across the garage doors. "I'm getting too old for this," Peter gasped, sliding backwards against the side of the lockers.
"How long do you think this will hold them?" Ray asked.
A bolt of electric fire burst through the wooden garage doors and lockers, flying unimpeded across the room until it struck the brick wall behind Janine's desk. The hole it left, perfectly circular aside from splinters, was large enough to admit an arm, and a silvery metallic arm promptly sought admission.
A small part of Venkman's mind noted once more, as he crossed the garage floor in near-record time and dove behind the railing separating ECTO-1 from the office furniture, how the combination of survival instinct and adrenalin could produce astonishing results.
Egon, proton cannon at the ready, sprayed the arm- and the wooden obstacles around it- with a quick blast. An electronic scream echoed through the doors as the arm slowly slid back out. Maintaining his aim, Egon noted, "I believe the answer to your question, Ray... is not very long."
Ray and Peter shrugged themselves back into their own proton packs. "Well," Ray said, "we can hold them off for a few minutes, anyway. Maybe the army will get here in that time."
"The army, to the best of my knowledge," Egon replied, "has not armed itself with proton accelerators- a fact for which, heretofore, I have been grateful." As a second blast of plasma widened the hole in the doors and lockers, he added, "And considering the time already elapsed, it is highly unlikely they have anything equally effective."
More plasma fire echoed above, with an occasional return blast of particle beam. "Guys, you better think of somethin' fast!" Winston shouted down. "They've got me pinned down too well to push 'em back anymore!"
Ray looked glumly at Egon, whose naturally stoic face seemed carved in granite. "Well, I'm out of ideas," Ray said. "What have you got left, Egon?"
"A seventy-two percent charge, one remaining spare pack..." Egon looked down at his gear before concluding, "And a ghost trap, probably useless under the-"
"That's it!" Peter shouted.
"What's it?" Ray asked. "Those aren't ghosts, Peter- we knew that from the start, remember?"
"No, no, no," Peter shook his head. "We give the Tin Woodsman and his million friends outside something else to worry about besides us."
"How do you propose we do that?" Egon asked.
"Shut down the containment grid," Peter grinned. "Let all the ghosts out to play."
"Peter, if we do that," Ray said, "the mayor will have us up on charges-"
"Again," Egon muttered.
"- the EPA will have a conniption fit-"
"Again."
"-at least eight of our guests will attempt to kill us, conquer Earth, or destroy it, or any combination of the three-"
"Again."
"-and we'll have to put a new roof on the firehouse, AGAIN."
"Well," Peter shrugged, "right now the mayor and the EPA are probably too busy to notice one more explosion, the ghosts outside will be too busy fighting each other and our friends outside to bother us... and we can pay for the roof by re-capturing all those ghosts afterwards."
