Since the 40th Glorious 20th was a few days ago, the Spouse showed For All Mankind. Despite being a total sausage-fest, it's a really moving film, especially when the astronauts start talking about the emotional impact of seeing the Earth from lunar orbit, and their feelings on leaving the Moon.

It starts with JFK's address from Rice Stadium, which is fun, partly because all the politicans from Up North are sweating like pigs in the Houston heat and about to fall out; only LBJ isn't melting, and he doesn't exactly look comfortable, but at least he knew better than to wear a regular wool suit. But the idea that the government can and should take on difficult tasks because they are difficult is an interesting one, and one that fell out of favor sometime in the '70s. I hope the current Civic generation comes around to that again.

Well I admit, this heat isn't the easiest for us northerners. :P Dad and I are adjusting. 85 is now nice weather that I can wear pants in. XD

I once accidentally laughed in a Yankee's face when he said it was hot out and it was only 86°F in full sunlight. I had to explain that down here, that's only warm; if you're not up in the 90s, it's not hot yet.

Yup, that's what dad and I are learning the hard way. We now hesitate to go swimming in 80 degree weather when we'd gladly do it up north.

It's funny down here in Texas, in a good way.

Come out west friends. I don't consider it hot until you hit triple digits.

There can easily be a 50 degree temperature difference in one day. : )

Fun times in the desert.

Yeah, no kidding. I had the interesting experience of visiting Salt Lake City in July two years ago for an educator's conference. I was wandering around downtown near the convention center and the Temple, and I suddenly realized I was about to fall out - it was 108° in the shade, but I wasn't sweating, or, more accurately, it was all evaporating instantly, so my river-bottom-flower self wasn't noticing how much water I was losing. Fortunately, there was this rain-wall thingy next to our hotel, so I went and stood next to that until my skin went back to its froglike state. But I ended up with crazy windburns, just because I'm used to the humidity never really falling below 60%.

I remember talking with a friend in Montreal, and describing our differing regional temperature tolerances. For her, if it reached 90° it was "hot" (with 95° and up being "TOO DARN HOT"), while some thing in the 40s would be "cool". Meanwhile, for us the 40s are "COLD" while it takes an extended stretch of consecutive 95°-plus days to be considered "hot" - before that point, it's just "warm".

Ahh yeah, my temperature tolerances are very polarized. Anything below 95 is merely warm yet it doesn't become cold until you hit the 30s. The teens are really cold and below zero is just crazy. Above 100 is hot and over 110 it's really hot and tourists should stay inside.

I actually really dislike temperatures in the middle, between 50-75 are horrible and disgusting temperatures for me. Unless it's raining.
