omorka: (Scent-ual)

Made an order from Nature's Garden for some mixed perfume oils; most of their blends are meant for candle-making, but they mark which ones are safe for stuff like soaps, personal scent blends, body lotions, etc. Unusually for me, none of these are single-note scents, but there are some things (like the ozonic scents) where those just aren't available for home perfumery.

Standouts: Cappuccino (pretty much smells exactly like cappuccino, complete with milk and brown sugar notes), Fresh Linen (a nice ozonic scent), Honey (pretty true to scent, although it has an odd alcohol note that dissipates pretty quickly), Maple Sugar (MMMmmmm), Sweet Grass (a straight-up grassy scent), Wisteria (close as I've ever smelled, rich and purple)

Middle-of-the-Road: Blueberry (smells like blueberry candy, not the berries themselves), Butterscotch Pudding (butterscotchy, but overwhelmingly sweet), Caramel (oddly weak but pleasant), Cola (smells more like lemon soda to me), Fig Lychee (true to scent, but too much lychee and not enough fig), Fresh Cut Grass (smells like the title plus some wildflower-ish backup notes, which I could have done without), Lotus Blossom (heavy and not very distinctive; lotus should say 'exotic' first and foremost), Rain (aquatic with odd floral notes; not bad, but not quite what I wanted), Rootbeer (a little too heavy on the wintergreen), White Tea (a little too sweet, but pretty close)

Disappointments: Chamomile (too weedy), Green Tea (oddly astringent and not herb-y enough), Vanilla (has other stuff in it that fights with the vanilla; I've not yet found an oil version that was good enough to use - back to my hand-infused vanilla jojoba base, I guess)

I'm totally amused that they sent me a little folder/packet along with the oils. Part of it is a partial catalog - a list of suggested wicks for various applications, a 'loyal customer' coupon. Part of it is a welcome letter/FAQ (actually signed by someone; that's nice, bit of a personal touch there, probably goes over well with the country-candlemaker crowd). There's a mouse pad with their logo and a photo of some candles. (WTF?) And, to top off the whole country-kitchen feel, there's a pink cut-paper heart-shaped doily labeled "We Care."

*shakes head*

Anyway, it's amusing that they've decided to take advantage of . . . the election year. No, seriously, they have three signature scents made up specifically for the Presidential election. It will surprise no one that 'Democrat' is the green scent (although I was wrong, it doesn't list patchouli as a note), and 'Republican' is the one with an apple note? (And why do they all have citrus top notes?) I wonder what their Green and Libertarian scents would be like?
