So I went to a Local Fabric Store to pick up some thread to make some minor clothing repairs, some grosgrain ribbon to try and salvage a pair of Really Cheap Shoes, and a whole bunch of T-pins in anticipations of finally getting to block Cobweb (I have a box of U-pins, but that's so totally not going to cut it - this thing has about a bajillion points). While there, I also ended up getting:

  • A set of general-purpose needles (sharps and embroidery needles, mostly) with bonus needle threader, to assist in said clothing repairs (it was cheaper than just buying a set of sharps and a needle threader separately, and I have no idea where my last needle set is)
  • An orchid-pink folding chair (it was 50% off, and we can use another living room chair that can be folded away as needed)
  • A set of yarn darning needles (in case I need to do any Russian joins)
  • The kicker: four skeins of Cha Cha yarn, labels long since gone and wrapped in hastily-constructed butcher-paper labels, in the Tango colorway, clearanced out at $.50 each

  • Now, I have no idea what I'm going to do with four skeins of seriously froufrou yarn. Google says it's 100% nylon, 77 yards/skein. This looks like it's all from the same dye lot, at least - I can't see any obvious differences between the skeins. It's curly eyelash yarn, very frizzy, in a sort of tigerish color mix - light tawny yellow, coppery orange, bronze-y brown, and black, with no color predominating (maybe a little less of the black and a little more of the other three). I guess I could double-strand it with some heavy worsted black or dark brown wool and make a long, skinny scarf-cum-boa, with a matching hat using the foofy as a bottom band and maybe some patterning or simple cables on the body. It's a nice autumnal set of colors. I wouldn't normally pick up such froufrou yarn, especially on a whim, but dang, it was cheap.

(And I wouldn't usually buy a pink chair, either, but the other color choice was bright yellow, which was even worse.)

Was the yarn fifty cents or fifty dollars? I think you missplaced a decimal point.

I've only worked with the eyelash yarn once or twice and it definitely does better (IMHO) when paired with another yarn. I do crochet work almost exclusively though. I'm sure it works up differently in knitting. In crochet it's a pain in the patootie.

Whoops. I fail at the HTML for a cent mark. Fixed. It would have been on the wrong side, anyway, now that I'm looking at it.

I've knit with two strands of eyelash yarn held together, instead of being worked together with something else, and that worked okay, but it was hard to see the individual stitches - in crochet, I imagine that would be an even bigger problem than in knitting, where at least you can aim for the needle. I've never crocheted with the stuff; since crochet uses more yarn per stitch than knitting, it never seemed very economical. And I've never knit with it single-stranded.
