Okay, updating iJournal seems to have fixed it. Apparently the new version of iTunes and the older version of iJournal don't play nice with each other, but only on Intel Macs. Why iTunes suddenly decided to speak Japanese I don't know.

On the other hand, now there's a "location" bar right above the "Music" bar, which I'm not sure I'm that happy about.

By default the current iTunes doesn't really know what country you're in until you go into prefs or use the store in the new version.

This causes a number of odd issues. I'm assuming this is one of them.

The thing is, (a) updating iJournal fixed it without my doing anything to iTunes, (b) I think I have, in fact, bought something from iTunes since getting this computer, and (c) the kanji are actually a cipher - each one stands for a letter in the English name of the song/artist/album.

So I don't think this is iTunes's fault alone. Still very strange, though. I'm glad I found how to fix it.

(Also, LJ's spellcheck thinks that "kanji" is a misspelling and wants me to change it to either "banjo" or "kinky".)
