So, between The Ice Storm and Brokeback Mountain, Ang Lee has directed the entire Big-Blue-Eyed Bishi Boy Triumvirate - Tobias Maguire, Jacob Gillenhaal, and Elijah Wood. (I only wrote out their actual first names because I wanted to comment on these three blue-eyed white boys with the Celtic, Dutch, and quintessentially English last names all having Hebrew first names. What's up with that?) (And yes, I am aware that there is a school of thought that says that Tobey's eyes are more grey than blue. These people are smoking crack. Not the good kind.)

I have a Hebrew first name and French last name.
Stupid English, following other languages down back alleys,
mugging them, and digging through their pockets for loose grammar.

Oh, and I saw an all silicon basting brush yesterday, with integral
squeeze bulb sauce reservoir. "Orka" brand. Thought there were a
couple extra letters at first.

Hebrew first names because many Western European names are based on biblical ones? Look at some old census data if you want a rundown of the more obscure Hebrew names. Jedidiah, Ezekiel, Zebulon. Compared to that, Jacob, Tobias and Elijah are prety white bread.

Jacob's fairly common, sure. Elijah's a little strange. And I haven't heard of another Tobias since the '30s.

(And I think of Ezekiel as more common than Elijah, but that may be a regional thing - I had several schoolmates nicknamed Zeke.)
