omorka: (Weird In Concert)

The belly dancers went on for longer than usual tonight. The strawberry blonde one had a pair of fans with long streamers of tie-dyed material coming off of them, which she used to great effect (including a couple of moves that were identical to firespinner moves).

The band was playing everything at a slightly faster than normal tempo. On the one hand, this raised the energy level, especially during the first set; on the other hand, it wore out the drummer (and to a lesser extent Beans and the Spouse). The band also seemed to be gelling better than at the last show I saw.

The patter went on for way long between songs this time - so much so that the band didn't get to play their entire second set, and still ended at about 2:20. Having said that, one part was necessary - Beans gave a short eulogy for one of his childhood friends and former drummers, and then played "Sailors on the Sea," which is normally dedicated to his brother. Very powerful.

I'm very glad that Dan's has started selling hot tea, especially since it means I'll be able to get it iced at summer shows. However, having a mug of Morning Thunder followed by their oddly herbal-tasting English Breakfast - I think it must be part oolong; it tasted as if it had holy basil as one of the components - was perhaps not a good idea when my nerves are already jangled.
