For your consideration:

"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

We would like to know who really believes in bisexual rights on LiveJournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in bi rights, then repost this and title the post as "Bi Rights". If you don't believe in bi rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

For "bi" in the above, substitute "queer." Or "women's." Or "kinky". Or "trans." Or "poly." Or, in fact, any mutually consensual nonstandard sexuality, gender orientation, or sexual orientation. I support the right of any mutually consenting people to celebrate their turn-ons and orgasms, each in their own way, without having to worry about discrimination in housing, being prevented from visiting their beloveds in the hospital, or violence from people who like their sex otherwise. And I find myself disappointed in my allies that they constantly and consistently narrow their focus to one particular form of nonstandard sexuality.

I find it interesting that you find yourself disappointed in people narrowing the focus. I thought that LGBQTWXYZ thing was getting ridiculously broad. For example, transgendered people deal with different issues than cross dressers and hermaphrodites, but they are all tossed into the same support group because these are all "gender" issues.

*shrug* I'm really, really tired of biphobia and bi-invisibility, and to a lesser degree the downplaying of the kink community, in the gay and lesbian community right now.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

That being said, you do have a point.

Can't we just say "sexual rights"? Isn't that broad enough to cover everyone and every kink?

I am a little irritated at the idea that if I don't repost this, it means I'm totally against sexual rights for everyone.

Which, of course, was part of my point about the original version of the meme.

Then I think we agreed.

Provided you are a of a moral age of consent, I concurr with your statement.

Suck, Fuck, Lick, Jerk, Squeeze, Cum and whatnot for any and all partners you'd like, provided they are of age to consent to the action.

I don't like this meme. It's heavy handed and poorly worded. I believe our government shouldn't limit the right of consenting adults to do what they damn well please with one another.

The hetero and homo communities in MA had a lot in common. The Bi community was mistrusted and belittled by both of them. Bi women 'just needed a real man/women' to turn them in the right direction. Bi men were a mythical beast.

I remember being shocked at hearing a group of self identified dykes ragging on the 'indescisive' bisexual women they knew.

No matter how big the tent is supposed to be, all people have their baggage and hang-ups. I've often wondered why bisexuals have been lumped in with all the other 'different' sexualities. I think the big tent helps straights feels that they can safely ignore everything different from the assumed monogamous hetero standard.

I can't wait for society to loosen up enough that they stop seeing these issues as needing such carefully crafted labels and communities.

I don't beleive in 'bi-rights'. I beleive in human rights. I beleive in human sexuality. I think fredom to explore sexuality is a BASIC human right. I don't really know who's mature enough to do what responsibly, and I don't think others know either. The rules are as different as people.

Let's all loosen up and let what happens happen!
